Darren Arthur Daulton overcame numerous knee injuries to develop into one of the National League's most productive catchers, and was the inspirational leader of the 1993 NL pennant-winning Philadelphia Phillies. Daulton spent 14 seasons with the Phillies and the final three months of his career with the Florida Marlins before retiring as a player in 1997. He went out in style as the Marlins won the ’97 World Series and Daulton batted .389 with seven runs scored and seven hits. Daulton was selected to four Major League All-Star games, and played in three of them. He was the 1992 National League leader in runs batted in (109) and was selected for the Hank Aaron Award after the ’92 season ended. He was named the Comeback Player of the Year in 1997. After starring in several sports at Arkansas City High School, Daulton was selected by the Phillies in the 25th round of the 1980 June draft. He made his major league debut in 1983 and was considered the catcher of the future by the club. In 14 seasons with the Phillies, and Marlins, Daulton played in 1,161 games, hit 137 home runs and drove in 588 of his teammates. In 1997, he was inducted into the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame and was also honored as the Comeback Player of the Year. Hampered by injuries during several seasons, Daulton’s best years came in 1992 when he had 27 home runs and 109 runs batted in and in 1993, when he finished with 24 homers and 105 RBI.
