Kim Roentved

Active, quick and powerful, Kim Roentved became known as “The Rocket” during his time as a professional soccer player.
From Denmark, Roentved quickly became a fan favorite in both Wichita and Kansas City where he has been heavily involved in the local soccer scene in both cities. Roentved started his career as a footballer in Denmark with the Brønshj Boldklub football club.
In the United States, he began his career with the Wichita Wings in 1980. A highlight came in scoring the winning overtime goal in the 1983 Major Indoor Soccer League All-Star game, leading the West to a 7-6 win. Roentved played for the Wings from 1980-87 and then again from 1991-98; in between he played with the Kansas City Comets from 1987-1991. He played one season with the Kansas City Attack (1998-99) and one game as player/coach for the Wichita B-52s in 2014-15.His successful 20-year run as an indoor soccer player resulted in 380 goals scored and 447 assists in 738 games.
Roentved was named Major Indoor Soccer Leagues Defender of the Year twice, selected to the All-League Team three times and All-Decade team (1978-88) season and was an All Star for the MISL eight times, consecutively from 1982-83 through the 1989-90.
After his brief stint with the Kansas City Comets, Roentved returned to the Wichita Wings, now part of the National Premier Soccer League, in 1992. During this period with the Wings, he was named the NPSL’s Defender of the Year for the 1992-93 season and was named to their All-League Team five times. He was named an All-Star three times in his career with the NPSL.
After his retirement in 1999, Roentved coached several youth clubs and returned to the professional ranks in August 2010 as head coach of the Missouri Comets (through August 2013). In October 2014, Roentved was named Director of Operations for the Wichita B-52s, and two months later becoming their head coach. Most recently, he was head coach of the Kansas City Comets from 2017-19.
In 2011, he was inducted into the Indoor Soccer Hall of Fame.
Roentved and his wife Linda Daly-Roentved have three children, Chad, Cole, and Jade. Cole played soccer at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
