Linda Adams Hargrove was a highly successful basketball coach at the collegiate level in Kansas and later coached professional and Olympic teams. Hargrove compiled a 429-248 record in 26 seasons as the head coach for Wichita State University and Cowley County Community College. At Wichita State, Hargrove led the Shockers to the school's first Missouri Valley Conference championship game in 1997 with a school-record 17 wins. She was named the MVC Coach of the Year in 1993 when she led WSU to its first winning season in 10 years. During her 17-year tenure at Cowley County, Hargrove compiled a 316-112 record, was named NJCAA Coach of the Year in 1987 and guided the Tigers to 10 league titles in 11 years. Hargrove’s success attracted attention at the national level. In 1992, she served as an assistant coach for the 1992 U.S. Olympic team, which won the bronze medal in Barcelona, Spain. She was named the head coach of the Portland Fire of the Women’s National Basketball Association in 1999 and also coached in the American Basketball League. Hargrove has served on the board of directors for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association as well as the USA Basketball Senior National Team Committee. Hargrove is also a member of the Southwestern College Athletic Hall of Fame and the NJCAA Hall of Fame. She was an AAU national-record hurdler as a youth and an ASA softball All-American.
